Abstract

Purpose: This paper aims to identify, analyze, model the risk elements in the supply chain and further set future trends to evaluate risks in other domains of cement manufacturing industry. Cement is the second most consumed material in the world, has a fast supply chain in the global market. This has driven the authors to study the supply chain risks for this sector. Design/methodology/approach: Through a detailed literature review and interaction with industry experts, 19 risk elements have been identified that may disrupt the supply chain activities. Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) is used to prioritize these risk elements based on the risk priority number (RPN). RPN is derived from the severity, occurrence, and detectability of these risk elements in various process functions of the supply chain. 10 risk elements are selected from this analysis that have higher priority number. Further, these elements have been fed to the Interpretive Structural Model (ISM) that derived the contextual interrelationship among these elements. Further MICMAC analysis has been implemented on the risk elements based on their driving and dependency power. Findings: Unpredicted heavy rainfall and energy shortages have been identified as the root causes of other risk elements. Increasing turnaround time in logistics and fleet adjustment during heavy demand, having the highest dependence power, are considered as the most important risk elements in the cement industry supply chain. Originality/value: This is the first study in the domain of supply chain risks which has analyzed and modelled risks for cement industry. This work would provide the decision-makers of cement industry to focus on the specific risk elements for reducing disruptions in the supply chain.

Abstract

In this study, the main aim is to know farmers’ problems in the agricultural sector. Food products are the primary good to ensure the quality of life and health. In the world, many countries are depending on the agricultural sector and farmers are the backbone of the economy. Design/methodology/approach: In this study, the main aim is to find what are the challenges faced by the farmers in Andhra Pradesh State. The present paper attempts to spell out some of the constraints like production, and marketing, and finance-related problems faced by the farmers. Primary data were collected from the farmers to investigate the aim and applied a convenient sample technique to collect opinions from the respondent. Findings: To find out production, marketing, and finance-related problems have been faced by the farmers. This study helps to encourage farmers to produce more goods and to increase productivity. Originality/value: It was concluded that a spellbinding report utilizing essential information would be fitting to explore the destinations. The essential information was gathered from the farmers by utilizing a meeting plan explicitly intended for the reason. Most extreme consideration was taken to give essential explanations in vernacular to empower the respondents to reply as precisely as conceivable with no uncertainty.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to identify various risks in the power distribution supply chain and further to prioritize the risk variables and propose a model to the power distribution industry for managing the interruptions in its supply chain. To accomplish this objective, a case of a major power distribution company has been considered. Design/methodology/approach Failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) analysis has been done to identify the potential failure modes, their severity, and occurrence and detection scores. Then an interpretive structural model (ISM) has been developed to identify and understand the interrelationships among these enablers followed by MICMAC analysis, to classify the risk variables in four quadrants based on their driving and dependency powers. Findings The results of this study exhibit that technical failure in the information and technology system, the use of improper equipment, poor maintenance and housekeeping in the internal operations are the major risk drivers. Exposure to live wires and commercial loss in power supply has strong dependence power. Research limitations/implications This study is limited to a single power distribution company and not the whole power distribution sector. Practical implications This study suggests the managers of the power distribution company develop an initial understanding of the drivers and the dependent powers on the supply chain risks. Social implications Through prioritization, identification of drivers and the dependent risks, the losses in the power distribution supply chain can be minimized. Originality/value Various failures in the power distribution have been studied in the past, but they have not investigated the supply chain risks in the power distribution of a power distribution company.

Abstract

The objective of this paper is to conceptualize a structural model of Green Supply Chain practices by the organizations for environmental sustainability through the identification and incorporation of relevant performance drivers and barriers of green practices. The review of the literature was done to study the Green Supply Chain practices implemented by various organizations. Further, how Green Supply Chain Management drives environmental sustainability was studied. The green performance drivers and the barriers were identified by studying the existing studies on the efficient use of green practices in Supply chain management. In this study, the scope is determined by centring on the manufacturing examples of green supply chain management. Based on the drivers and the barriers identified, a suggestive set of activities is modelled that can be used for the efficient use of the green practices in Supply Chain. Real-time organizational cases were identified that collaborated with the environmental organizations for green initiatives. This motivated the researcher to incorporate collaborations as a major suggestive parameter in the model. As this study swotted the past works of green practices for the manufacturing firms and firms in general, the suggestive components can be limited at the execution level for the service sector. This research study is an endeavour to comprehend how Green Supply Chain Management drives environmental sustainability through secondary data. A model that is anticipated at the end of this study is completely theoretical and conceptual, and accommodates the scope of change for the change in the organization.
